The Punjabi culture arose from the regions along the five rivers (the name Punjab, is derived from two Persian words, Panj meaning "Five" and Âb meaning "Water"), which served as an important route to the Near East as early as the ancient Indus Valley civilization, dating back to 3000 BCE.

The area now borders present-day India and Pakistan. Agriculture has been the major economic feature of Punjab and has therefore formed the foundation of Punjabi culture.

At this station, you will experience the vibrant colours of Punjabi textiles (phulkari) and try them on yourself! You will learn about the Punjabi language and even try writing your own name in Punjabi! You can explore books on Punjabi folklore and culture, as well as traditional artifacts. And there will be traditional instruments (the tabla and harmonium) to test out your musical skills!

At the Russian booth, you will have the opportunity to explore some cultural artifacts, test your knowledge and discover more about Russia by participating in our entertaining quiz. It's a chance to learn interesting facts, share your own insights, and perhaps even win a prize!

Iranian culture is a vibrant mosaic of historical and contemporary elements, rich in tradition and innovation. Rooted in a history influenced by various civilizations, it boasts a diverse blend of art, literature, and music. Iran's literary heritage, particularly in poetry with figures like Hafez and Rumi, is globally celebrated. Traditional Iranian music and dance reflect the country's regional diversity, while its cuisine is renowned for its rich flavors and unique ingredients like saffron and pomegranate.

A key aspect of Iranian culture is its solar calendar, noted for its astronomical accuracy. This calendar is central to Iranian cultural and religious celebrations, including Nowruz (the Persian New Year) and other festivals.

We are excited to bring a slice of this rich culture to you through our booth, where we will showcase Iranian celebrations like Yalda and Charshanbeh Soori. Join us to experience the warmth and joy of these festivities. Get cozy under our Korsi, a traditional Iranian heating system, and immerse yourself in the Yalda night celebrations. Engage in crafting activities and games that reflect the spirit of these occasions. We invite everyone to come and indulge in these cultural experiences, and celebrate the rich heritage of Iran with us.

The Chinese culture is one of the world’s oldest cultures, tracing back to thousands of years ago. Important components of Chinese culture include ceramics, architecture, music, literature, martial arts, cuisine, visual arts, philosophy and religion, etc.

Chinese Food-The history of Chinese food stretches back for thousands of years and has changed from period to period in each region according to climate, imperial fashions, and local preferences. You will have a chance to learn how to make Chinese Dumplings in the event!

Chinese art- the painting, calligraphy, architecture, pottery, sculpture, bronzes, jade carving, and other fine or decorative art forms produced in China over the centuries. At QM school celebration, we will have traditional art craft making, Chinese word learning and game, and Chinese artist will come to show Chinese traditional painting at the booth show.

Chinese music- Chinese music dates back thousands of years and sounds different from Western music thanks to important differences in tone, musical scale, pitch, instrumentation, and individual instruments. We will have Queen Mary students play Chinese fiddle and Chinese lute, show Chinese dance and bring Chinese song chorus to you!
