As many of you know the VSB is planning on eliminating the Band and Strings program in all elementary schools. There was significant public support for the program being retained but it is not looking like they will be retaining it. Your PAC was one of many groups who presented to the Trustees at the VSB in April in an effort to save this program.

As a last effort to try to maintain this program in the VSB, they are looking at whether families would consider paying for the band and strings program with a monthly fee. Currently the North Vancouver School Board charges $45 per month or $450 for their program and the West Vancouver School Board charges $35 per month or $350 for theirs. To see if our school district could support a user pay program, which your PAC suggested they try before completely eliminating the program forever, a survey has been sent out to all grade 4, 5 and 6 families in the VSB. We feel that grade 3 parents should also respond and ask the VSB to reopen the strings program up to grade 4's like it was prior to this year. Please add this to the comments on the bottom.

The survey will take only a few minutes. A notice will go home Monday or you can download it here. You can also simply complete it online.

  Band and Strings Online Survey

Please complete a separate survey for each child that you have in grade 3, 4, 5 and 6.

It seems that the user pay program would involve a bit more music instruction than the current program and the cost relative to private lessons is still less and the kids get the experience of playing together which lways sounds so amazing.

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO COMPLETE THIS SURVEY. We are also looking at ways to offer a bursary program so that families with children who cannot afford the user fee would be still be able to be part of the program. If you have any ideas please do not hesitate to give me a call.
