Throughout the year, Queen Mary Elementary offers after school programs that are run by community organizations at our school. Please see below for current options.​

After-School Beginner Cantonese Chinese Class

We are excited to be offering this after-school language enrichment opportunity to Queen Mary students from Grade 1 to Grade 6.

May 2 to June 20 (excluding June 13 due to Sports Day)

Fridays 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM

1 - 6

Fees:

$210 (includes tax and materials)

Class Size: Up to 15 students

Ravens Rugby Program

Are you ready to experience the excitement of rugby in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment? Ravens Rugby is proud to host after school rugby for young athletes from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Whether you're new to the sport or looking to develop your skills, After school Ravens Rugby Program is the perfect place for you. Students will be supervised from dismissal at the program school. No need to pick up your child until 4.30 pm.

Project People Hub STEAM after school programs at St. Helen’s

The STEAM-based afterschool program runs three days a week Tuesdays-Thursdays for all Queen Mary Elementary students ages 6-9. Students can enjoy snacks and STEAM-based activities.

*Please note that this program is exclusive to Queen Mary students. We will pick up your child and walk them to St. Helen's Church.

Engineering & Robotics-VEX Robotics

Embark on an exciting journey into the world of robotics and coding! This hands-on program introduces young learners to the fundamentals of robotics using the beginner-friendly LEGO EV3 platform. Students will:

• Design, build, and program robots to complete thrilling challenges and solve real-world problems.
• Learn coding fundamentals through block-based programming, empowering them to bring their creations to life.
• Develop essential skills like computational thinking, logical reasoning, and teamwork in a collaborative environment.

Lights Up Musical Theatre

Sing. Dance. Act. Shine!

At Lights Up Afterschool, your child can experience the joys and benefits of musical theatre by taking part in our afterschool programs led by our talented and experienced Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools’ staff. These classes are a unique introduction to our weekend musical theatre programs and provide students with an enriching, rewarding, and most of all, fun afterschool activity right at the bell!


SPRING SHOW: MAGIC SCHOOL BUS!

Seat belts, everyone! This Spring, we will be putting on a musical performance of “Magic School Bus”, created for our afterschool students! Inspired by the series of the same name, students will sing, dance, and act on a field trip through space with everyone’s favourite teacher, Ms. Frizzle!


Students will be supervised from dismissal. No need to pick up your child until 5:15pm!

​Join Us to Play “World Cup” Style Small-Sided Games! All levels welcome. This is a great opportunity to stay active, learn ball control and play fun soccer games. Expect music and a fun festive atmosphere to ignite the global passion of the beautiful game.

VEMS Extracurricular Choir - Term 2

Students will learn healthy vocal production and musicianship with their schoolmates while
exploring diverse repertoire. Every rehearsal has a professional pianist to encourage tuning and experience live music making. Regular attendance is strongly recommended as new songs are regularly introduced. The music has been carefully chosen with the children’s vocal health and abilities in mind. Team sports for the Arts!

Young Rembrandts

This winter, transform afterschool into an adventure of art and discovery with Young Rembrandts! Your elementary-aged artist will explore composition with the Fish Below Ice project and they will travel to the Great Wall of China right from their desk. Sports fans will cheer for our Hockey Player drawing, while budding historians can learn about the master strokes of Leonardo Da Vinci and Franz Marc’s Blue Horse. It's a season filled with creativity and learning—perfect for enhancing your child's drawing and colouring expertise. Enroll your young creator today!

Young Rembrandts teaches basic to intermediate drawing skills using a step-by-step method.

Professor Puffin’s Challenge Club

Children should have conversational fluency in English, in order to fully engage with program material

Professor Puffin’s Challenge Club is an afterschool enrichment program that offers a fun, educational and engaging experience for children in grades 1-4. The program uses a variety of activities to review subjects covered in the BC school curriculum (Science, art, nature, English, etc.) while mixing in entertaining topics to spark children’s interest. The program aims to develop teamwork, problem-solving skills, and focus, as well as expanded vocabulary and increased confidence. We offer a play-based approach that encourages exploration and collaboration with peers. Challenges are adapted to grade levels to ensure everyone’s active participation.

Neighborhood Art Studios

Neighborhood Art Studios
Neighborhood Art Studios is offering hands on Art Classes at Queen Mary. Eight weeks of learning, creating and experiencing ART! These Art Classes will spark the creativity and Imagination of students with fun Art Projects. The set of eight sessions will introduce them to many new mediums, tools and techniques.

Students will learn how to draw from our illustrated step by step instruction starting from drawing animals from simple shapes, adding details and shading in different mediums such as Graphite, Oil pastels and Pencil crayons. PAINTING gives an amazing opportunity for children to express their perception, feelings and interests. Students will be introduced to new techniques in Acrylic Painting on canvas, learning how to mix and blend different colours, creating special effects and texture. They will be bringing paintings home done in Acrylics and Watercolours.

Oct. 10 – Nov. 28 (8 sessions)
