WINTER FAIR

December 12, 9:15 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Queen Mary’s Winter Fair is back—the extended version! This fun and festive event is also a school fundraiser, so please help us to make it a success!

Schedule

During the school day, 9:15 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Students will visit the fair with their classes. Each division has a 40-minute period during which they can play the games and musical cakes, purchase crafts, and enter the raffle.

After school, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Family time. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Games and raffle continue, plus the bake sale and community craft sale open. Student musicians perform musical numbers in a cafe-style atmosphere. Enjoy some delicious baking while listening to our talented students!

PLEASE BRING CASH FOR THE AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES/SALES.

The Fair

Crafting Supplies Table

Craft Sale

All QM classes will be preparing crafts to sell at the fair. During the school day, students can purchase the crafts using their punch cards. After school, student-made crafts are available for cash purchase. We will also be selling crafts from our adult community. If you like to create, please consider contributing your work to our sale. This could be art cards, greeting cards, jewelry, knitted or sewn items, woodwork, metalwork . . . anything you make!

Colorful Cake Display

Musical Cakes

A QM favourite! Children play musical chairs, hoping to win a cake.

(During the school day only. Winners may collect their cakes after school.)

We need cakes! Cakes may be homemade or store-bought. All must be nut-free and shelf-stable (no refrigeration).

Children Playing Trampoline

Games

Our goal is to have 11 fun games running all day, but this is dependent on volunteers. Please consider taking a shift so that our children can enjoy the games.

Colorful Gift Boxes

Holiday Raffle

Another QM favourite! Students can enter their names in draws for gifts. Each division’s parents work together to donate a gift.

Bake Sale

(After school only)

A long-standing QM tradition that we haven’t seen since 2019. Parents contribute baked goods to sell as a fundraiser. This could be cookies, pies, tarts, muffins, scones, cupcakes, bars, squares, brownies, pastries, macaroons . . . . Between 3:00 – 5:00, come purchase goodies to serve at your next holiday event, or enjoy them right there!

Girl Playing Guitar

Cafe-Style Music

(After school only)

Students will perform music from the stage while other activities continue. Enjoy festive vocal and instrumental numbers while you munch on some bake sale treats. And encourage your QM intermediate students to sign up to perform!

FAQ

1 / How will students pay for their games and crafts during the school day?

For their class visits to the fair, each student will be given a punch card valued at $20, plus 3 raffle tickets ($6 value). Students may spend these on games, the musical cakes game, crafts, and raffle during the school day. After school, tickets for games and raffle, plus baked goods and community crafts, will be available for cash purchase. Punch cards are valid during the school day only.

2 / Why do we use punch cards during the school day?

Punch cards make it easy for students of all ages to participate,  without having to manage cash.

3 / How do we make money if we give away the punch cards?

In the past, parents chose values of punch cards to purchase for their children ahead of time, but this resulted in disparity among the students the day of the fair. Because we want all students to be able to fully experience the fair with their classmates without barriers, we are giving every student the same value card, and same number of raffle tickets, regardless of parent contribution. To help us with costs and hopefully raise some funds, please consider donating to this event. $20 per student is a suggested donation, but any amount is welcome.
