Mary Elementary hosts after-school programs throughout the year, facilitated by community organizations at our school. Please find the current options listed below. For more programs available in the Queen Mary Community that are not located on school grounds, click here.
TUESDAYS
Professor Puffin’s Challenge Club
Professor Puffin’s Challenge Club is a one-of-a-kind, BC-made after-school program. Through a dynamic mix of interactive games, friendly challenges, and team-based activities, children come together to play, laugh, and learn in a supportive environment.
Each session offers new experiences that aim to develop teamwork, problem-solving skills, expanded vocabulary and increased confidence. We offer a play-based approach that encourages exploration and collaboration with peers.
Tuesdays: 3:00 PM - 4:10 PM

WEDNESDAYS
Beginner Cantonese
Learn Cantonese with Ladder Tree Language Centre! This after-school program introduces beginner learners to Cantonese through fun, interactive activities.
Class includes:
• Picture book storytelling
• Games and multi-sensory learning
• Everyday activities
• After-class review via Zoom
Wednesdays: 3:15 PM – 4:45 PM

Music, games and friendly World Cup style play. Players are grouped by age and skill level.
Every player receives a Timbits uniform, soccer ball, socks and medal.

Brainiacs: Board Games & Chess
Come explore the power of strategic thinking through fun, engaging, hands-on, and strategy-based board games such as Chess, Mastermind, Blokus, Chinese Checkers, Match Madness, Codenames, and many more.
The program will focus on teaching kids new board games, strategic foundations, skill development, and game strategy improvement. When playing chess, the focus will be on learning piece functions, openings, endgame tactics, variations, and puzzles (depending on the skill level).
No class on October 23, November 20

Note: For kids in grades 5-7, this program is best if they have a friend enrolled with them.

At Lights Up Afterschool, your child can experience the joys and benefits of musical theatre by taking part in our afterschool programs led by our talented and experienced Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools' staff.
These classes are a unique introduction to our weekend musical theatre programs and provide students with an enriching, rewarding, and most of all, fun afterschool activity right at the bell!
WINTER SHOW: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
How to train your dragon? Wonder no more! This winter, Lights Up afterschool students will dive into a world of vikings, dragons, and unexpected friendship. Inspired by the popular Dreamworks movie, with our own musical twist, embark on a heroic adventure as we learn together...

UBC Active Kids
Program information: The UBC Active Kids multisport and physical literacy program offers fun, interactive, and high energy classes focused on motivation and confidence building through agility, balance, and coordination games and activities. There is a focus on basic fundamental movement skill development such as running, kicking, throwing, catching, as well as sport specific skills and games. Kinesiology student coaches from the UBC Active Kids program travel to local schools to lead the program and connect with the community.

Moresports
Moresports After-School Sports Program- Basketball focus. This program offers a vibrant, fun-filled environment where participants explore various basketball specific skills and develop fundamental movements and tactics. This dynamic program focuses on providing a well-rounded athletic experience. Participants will enhance coordination, agility, and physical abilities while honing sport-specific skills. Our inclusive atmosphere encourages confidence, friendship, and the joy of sports.

WIZE 3D Modeling, Design & Printing
Our curriculum at Wize Computing Academy offers an exciting opportunity for young learners to dive into the realm of creativity, innovation, and technology. In this program, children will embark on a hands-on journey, exploring the art of 3D modeling, designing intricate objects, and bringing their imaginations to life through the magic of 3D printing.
By immersing themselves in this dynamic learning experience, kids not only develop essential STEM skills but also foster their problem-solving abilities and enhance their creativity.
Through engaging projects and challenges, they will learn the principles of
design thinking and gain the necessary skills for the future.
